Clacton on Sea is on a stretch of coastline known
as the Sunshine Coast as it enjoys more than its fair share of sunny days.
There are miles of award-winning beaches. Walk from the central Clacton resort
area along the seafront to the East to Holland on Sea or to the west to the Blue Flag Award Winning Martello Bay beach (May 2013), Jaywick Sands, and on to
St Osyth. Further round the coast, the resorts of Frinton and Walton on Naze are both approximately 8 miles/13
kms away.
For those looking for a tradition seaside or family holiday, there are all-year-round
attractions as well as an annual entertainment programme. Clacton Pier is perhaps
the best known tourist feature. In 1871 it was originally built as a landing point for goods and passengers but as
Clacton became an increasingly popular destination for day trippers, the pier was lengthened and entertainment added.
It is now owned by the Clacton Pier Company who have invested significantly, the latest addition being a 10-pin bowling
lounge and bar.
